FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD)- The City of Fort Worth is operating 16 water distribution sites for people affected by boil-water notices and broken water mains.
Through Friday afternoon, the city had responded to 180 water main breaks and was investigating 100 others.
Residents in western Fort Worth were told to continue boiling water Friday afternoon. The boil water notice had been lifted for North Fort Worth.
Other customers do not have running water because of broken water mains.
The Texas National Guard was working with the city and non-profits to distribute water. At Birchman Baptist Church in West Fort Worth, a line of cars was passing through.
"We're hurting. We haven't had running water in quite a while," one man said.
"It's just been miserable," the man in the car behind him said. "I'm glad we have this available to us."
The Fort Worth Office of Emergency Management and Fort Worth Fire Department set up the sites. They are working with the Texas National Guard, local businesses and non-profits.
"The Office of Emergency Management brought a 5,500 gallon tanker full of water from Vandervoort's Dairy full of water," says the Welman Project's Leslie Ford.
Ford says she got a call to help Friday morning and volunteers with her group started working at several sites. She says people who bring their own jugs will get water from the Vandervoort's truck. Others will receive cases of bottled water.
"Right now, you see the City of Fort Worth Water Department talking to the Office of Emergency Management. We've got the guys from the U.S. Army National Guard, and we've got the Welman Bus," she says. "We're just giving this stuff out, so we're here until it runs out."
The city of Fort Worth says distribution will continue daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. as long as the need continues. A complete list of locations is available
