A Fort Worth man could get anywhere from five to 99 years after being convicted of murder Thursday.

Peter Cardona was convicted in the 2020 shooting death of an acquaintance named Alfredo Olivares.

Prosecutors said there was bad blood between the two and that night, after a bout of heavy drinking, Cardona shot Olivares on the street outside the Olivares family home in Fort Worth.

Cardona's lawyers argued it was self-defense but the jury came with the guilty verdict.

Cardona opted to let the judge, rather than the jury, decide on sentencing.

The judge will give his decision after getting a report from a probation officer.
