The Near Southside of Fort Worth will host its first "Friday on the Green" of 2023 Friday evening. The event runs from 5 to 10 p.m. at Magnolia Green Park on Lipscomb between Magnolia and Rosedale.
"The music's going to be great, there's going to be lots of people out enjoying the festivities," says Dave Garner, owner of Maggie's R&R on Magnolia.
Wandering Roots is working with 30 local businesses to set up markets around the park. Several restaurants will set up food trucks as well.
Garner says Friday on the Green and other neighborhood events organized by the Near Southside can provide family-friendly activities that draw people from across Tarrant County.
"Families come out and enjoy the music," he says. "It's just the big kick-off for spring."
He says that can help visitors get to know small businesses in the neighborhood and draw them back in the future.
"We think it's just the sweetest part of Fort Worth," he says. "People can walk from homes nearby, there's lots of apartments in the area. It's just a very walkable place."
The Near Southside does not allow outside food or drink at Friday on the Green to support food trucks that will be set up on-site.
For Friday on the Green, Trinity Metro is offering a 50% discount for people who use buses, ZipZone, TEXRail or the TRE. People using the GoPass or ZipZone apps can use the promo code, FOTG23A, for adult fares. People eligible for reduced fares can use FOTG23R.
