The Tarrant County Sheriff's deputy who was injured in a shooting at a Fort Worth bank on Monday is recovering in the ICU.

Authorities said the deputy, identified as Brent Brown, was off duty but in uniform, working a security job at Fort Worth Community Credit Union on Brentwood Stair Road when he engaged with a robber.

Initial reports from law enforcement officials indicated the suspect pulled a gun on the bank teller, but the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday afternoon it "Can't confirm the suspect pulled his gun on the teller at this time."

Brown, who has worked for the sheriff's office since 2011, was shot twice in the upper body, according to the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office.

Fort Worth police and the FBI worked with the sheriff's office to arrest the suspect, Leland Williams, in a nearby neighborhood. Williams faces a charge of attempted murder of a police officer and remained in the Tarrant County Jail on Tuesday on a $ million bond.

The Tarrant County Sheriff's Department said Brown remained in ICU Tuesday, but "is alert and talking and his prognosis is good."

"Brent stood his ground, he did his duty and the nobility of what he did is what law enforcement expects out of all of our officers," Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn said.

Fort Worth police are leading the investigation of the robbery and shooting.
