There's a concerning trend in Cowtown.
Fort Worth police report an uptick in car thefts, especially around the I-35W corridor near downtown and in neighborhoods surrounding La Grande Plaza and Hulen Mall.
From May to October last year, thefts climbed 4% over the same period the previous year, with Chevrolets, Kias, and Hyundais most frequently stolen.
In response, officers are deploying bait cars to catch thieves in high-risk areas, positioning both marked and unmarked patrol vehicles, and evaluating blind spots for possible installation of surveillance cameras or license plate readers.
