Fort Worth surpasses one million in population

The U.S. Census says Fort Worth is one of two cities in the United States to have passed one million in population last year. The Census released population estimates Thursday.

Fort Worth is estimated to have added 23,442 residents between July 1, 2024 and July 1, 2025, reaching a total population of 1,008,106. Jacksonville, Florida also surpassed one million residents last year.

Fort Worth added the fifth most residents in the country trailing New York City, Houston, Los Angeles and San Antonio.

Four cities in Texas were also among the top five in growth by percentage. Princeton, east of McKinney, grew by 31% to a total population of 37,019. Fulshear, west of Houston, grew by 27% to 54,629. Celina, in Collin and Denton Counties, grew 18% to 51,661, and Anna, north of McKinney in Collin County grew by 15% to 31,986.

Four of the 15 most populous cities in the United States are in Texas. Houston is the fourth most populous at 2,390,125. San Antonio ranks seventh with a population of 1,526,656. Dallas ranks ninth at 1,326,087, and Fort Worth is now the 11th biggest city, passing Austin in population.
