Fort Worth’s Coyote Drive-In will show its last movie on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7, after 14 years on the Trinity River. The Tarrant Regional Water District is ending the theater’s lease so it can build two new canals and a three-acre park as part of the Trinity River Vision / Panther Island project.
The drive-in opened in 2012 at 23 NE 4th St. and became a regular stop for families and date nights. Managing partner Glenn Solomon said in a statement that the owners hoped to create more than a place to watch movies — a spot where friends and families could make memories. He thanked hundreds of thousands of guests who spent evenings there.
Under the original lease with TRWD, the agreement would end once construction on the canals and park began. That work is expected this fall, and the district exercised its right to terminate the lease, Coyote Drive-In said. The theater encouraged people to catch one last movie under the stars. No separate farewell event was announced Monday.
The venue reopened during the pandemic after a brief closure and later featured live music on weekends. Showtimes and tickets remain at coyotedrive-in.com until the last night.
