Police in Colleyville teamed up with the US Secret Service and Walmart Global Investigations (WGI) to bust a gift card theft ring.
It all started with one victim in Colleyville who lost $100, and police say investigators were able to unravel an entire web of thieves.
Police reports say the suspects cloned Walmart gift cards, so victims were left with worthless cards. But the thieves used them to buy thousands of dollars of goods, including $2,500 in lobster tails at Sam's Club, $5,700 in jewelry, $5,600 in kitchen appliances, and thousands of dollars in big-screen TVs.
Police and Secret Service agents arrested 42-year-old Geandy O'Reilley. A search of his house found dozens of cases of beer, gadgets to clone gift cards, and nearly 7,000 stolen Walmart gift cards. In 2022, O'Reilly pleaded guilty to similar criminal offenses and was sentenced to 36 months probation.
Also arrested was 35-year-old Anisel Matososa, 56-year-old Ernesto Mato, and 42-year-old Mayluis Novoa; all were charged with Fraudulent Possession/Use of Credit or Debit Card (Counterfeit Card), Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, Theft of Property, and Money Laundering.
