Frisco leaders dismiss ethics complaint, residents defend mayor and council members

FRISCO (1080 KRLD) - Frisco city officials have voted to dismiss a complaint … against Frisco city officials.

The ethics complaint, filed by Martin Woodward on Dec. 14, alleged that Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney and three city council members, John Keating, Brian Livingston and Dan Stricklin, threatened public safety by failing to wear face masks or follow social distancing measures during certain public gatherings.

The complaint was addressed and dismissed during Tuesday's city council meeting. During the meeting, several members of the Frisco community spoke against the complaint. No one spoke in support of it.

"Quit wasting the City of Frisco's time," one resident said.

"This ethics complaint is nothing more than an attempt of tyranny by those who worship at the altar of COVID," said another.

Mayor Cheney and the council members involved in the complaint refrained from voting on the issue. The remaining council members, Will Sowell, Shona Huffman and Bill Woodard, voted 3-0 to dismiss the complaint-- a decision that was met with applause.

After the vote, Cheney said the council welcomes public criticism.

"I know there's differences of opinions throughout the community on the right things to do," Cheney said. "We ask for everyone to be respectful of one another and show grace."
