Frisco police seek purse-snatching suspects

Police in Frisco have issued a warning to shoppers to be on alert after a series of purse-snatching incidents in the past few days. Police believe two of the incidents may involve the same suspect.

In the first case, a woman was shopping at the Walmart on Preston Road in Frisco Saturday afternoon when a man grabbed her purse out of her shopping cart and ran for the exit. A Good Samaritan near the doorway grabbed the purse from him, but was knocked to the ground as the suspect fled the building.

In the second case, a man got out of a vehicle in a parking lot of the Target on Eldorado Parkway and stole a woman's purse from her shopping cart.  There was a similar crime a few minutes later at the HEB on Main Street. The suspect tried to take a woman's purse, but it was looped around her neck and she fell to the ground. The 71-year-old victim suffered some cuts and bruises.

Police say in the two incidents on Monday, the description of the suspect and the vehicle he was using were similar.

The victim at the Target described the suspect as a white male wearing a hoodie, ballcap or beanie, and dark puffy vest. She described his vehicle as a dark gray Ford F250 with black wheels and chrome running boards. In the incident at the HEB, the victim said the suspect was a white male wearing an orange shirt, blue jacket, and black shorts. She said he fled the scene in a dark gray truck with black wheels.

"Unfortunately, these incidents provide a sobering reminder that criminals are looking to prey on innocent victims in our city, especially as we get closer to the holidays," said Frisco Police Chief David Shilson. "I would like to encourage all our residents to remain vigilant, and don't hesitate to call us if you see something suspicious."
