The city of Frisco began a construction project on Main Street on Monday that is expected to last about a year-and-a-half, officials say.
The construction is part of the city's downtown re-development project. Crews will remove on-street parking to start.
"Main Street will never be closed," Director of Engineering Services Jason Brodigan said. "We will always have at least one lane in each direction for the entirety of construction."
The Main Street project in Frisco will take about 18 months and is expected to cost around $20 million. City officials said it's part of their plan for downtown that was approved in 2018 that's designed to create more gathering places and improve walkability for residents.
"We know every world class city has a great downtown," Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney said. "Our goals include creating gathering places, improving walkability and providing a venue for live music and other performances. To do that, our City Councils support significant reinvestment in downtown redevelopment projects."
