A man wanted on multiple felony warrants is dead after Dallas police officers shot him inside a parking garage at Children's Health Hospital late Wednesday night, following a tense barricade standoff that brought SWAT teams to the Medical District.

The incident unfolded around 11 p.m. in the 1900 block of Medical District Drive. The Dallas Fugitive Unit had been tracking the suspect throughout the day and located him inside the parking garage at Children's Health Hospital.

Once officers made contact, the suspect barricaded himself inside the garage. Officers issued multiple commands for him to surrender. When he refused to comply, SWAT was called to the scene, and officers attempted to use tear gas to force him out.

When the suspect finally exited his vehicle, he pointed a gun at officers, who then opened fire. The suspect was struck and later pronounced dead. No officers were injured in the incident.

Dallas police have not released the identity of the man pending notification of next of kin, nor have they specified the nature of the outstanding felony warrants he was facing at the time of the confrontation.

The Dallas County District Attorney's Office and the Office of Community Police Oversight have been notified of the shooting, as is standard procedure in officer-involved shooting cases. The Dallas Police Department's Special Investigations Unit is leading the ongoing investigation.

Children's Health Hospital, one of the nation's leading pediatric medical centers, was placed on lockdown during the incident, and there were no reports of patients, staff, or visitors being endangered.

In a statement released to NewsRadio 1080 KRLD, Children's Hospital adds:

We can confirm that there was a security incident on hospital grounds. The Dallas Police Department were pursuing a suspect and the chase ended in our parking garage. The incident did not involve any patients or team members. In response, and per our security protocols, our Dallas Campus was on lockout to ensure the safety of everyone on our campus. We have been collaborating closely with the Dallas Police Department and will continue to do so.

The shooting is the fourth officer-involved shooting for the Dallas Police Department in 2026.
