Austin (1080 KRLD) - He threatened to do it, Friday he did.
Governor Greg Abbott has vetoed the legislature's portion of the state budget, after the Democrats walked out at the end of this year's session, killing an elections bill he wanted to be passed.
Democrats walked out of the House chamber before a midnight deadline to pass Senate Bill 7, leaving the House without a quorum to vote.
On Friday, Abbott said he signed a "fiscally conservative" state budget and confirmed he vetoed the legislature's portion.
The veto means the budget would keep legislators and their staff from getting paid after August 31st.
Abbott said he would call a special session for the elections bill, but a date has not yet been decided.
Provisions of SB7 included giving more access to poll watchers and making it easier for a judge to overturn an election due to fraud.
