The Texas Division of Emergency Management is sending manpower and equipment to Louisiana to help in the response to Hurricane Ida. Ida made landfall in Louisiana with winds of 150 miles an hour Sunday.

Monday, Governor Greg Abbott said Louisiana had made a request through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact for help with the response.

"The State of Texas is proud to support our neighbors in Louisiana by sending emergency resources and personnel to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. We will never forget the kindness, generosity, and support offered by the people of Louisiana during Hurricane Harvey four years ago, and we are eager to support them in their own time of need. When neighbors help neighbors, America is stronger. Cecilia and I continue to pray for the people of Louisiana affected by Hurricane Ida and the first responders who have answered the call to protect and serve those affected by this storm," Abbott wrote in a statement.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management is sending one Chinook helicopter and 14 crew members, 30 fire engines and 132 firefighters. Texas A&M Task Force One has also responded for search and rescue missions.

Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30. The National Hurricane Center says the peak runs from mid-August through late October.

"We are in the peak of the 2021 Hurricane Season, which doesn’t end until November 30. Texans should be sure they have taken every step to prepare now ahead of the next storm," Abbott says, encouraging people to take the following action:

*Review Plans for Shelter and Evacuation
*Sign Up for Local Emergency Alerts
*Build an Emergency Kit
*Check Insurance Coverage and Document Property (Flood insurance has a 30-day waiting period after purchase)
*Develop a Family Communication Plan

Monday afternoon, Tropical Storm Kate was in the central Atlantic Ocean but moving north and not expected to impact land. There are no other active tropical systems at this time.
