Drunk driving charge against Granbury mayor upgraded to felony

The mayor of Granbury has now been charged with a felony for his drunk driving arrest last month. Just after midnight Sunday, April 25, Nin Hulett was stopped for suspicion of drunk driving.

The City of Granbury says police received a call about 12:10 a.m. about an intoxicated person leaving the restaurant, Bob's Off the Square. An officer spotted the car and pulled Hulett over a few blocks away.

Hulett posted $1,000 bond and was released later that morning.

The misdemeanor charge was increased to a felony Friday, and another arrest warrant was issued. Police had learned this was Hulett's third arrest for drunk driving: the first was in Missouri in 1999 and the second was in Fort Worth in 2007.

His lawyer says Hulett turned himself in Monday morning and was released on $5,000 bond.

"We ask for no more than each of us should expect should we be facing these circumstances. Mayor Hulett is a good man and is serving our community with dignity and pride for our city. Please afford him, his family, and our system your respect and prayers. He deserves our presumption of innocence. As always, I appreciate the professionalism of the Granbury Police Department," the Law Office of Richard Hattox wrote in a statement.

The City of Granbury referred media to a statement sent last week simply confirming the initial arrest.

Hulett, 68, is serving his second term as mayor of Granbury. He was first elected in 2016, and his current term runs through November of 2022.
