Granbury (1080 KRLD)- The Mayor of Granbury, Nin Hulett, has submitted a letter of resignation following his drunk-driving felony last month.

"I am truly thankful for the opportunity to serve my city these past ten years," said Hulett in his letter.

"Our City staff and City employees are truly among the best in the State, and I am proud to count our many involved citizens as friends and neighbors.
Granbury has a special place in my heart, and I look forward to watching our city grow and prosper."

Just after midnight Sunday, April 25th, Hulett was stopped for suspicion of drunk driving.

The City of Granbury said police received a call about 12:10 a.m. about an intoxicated person leaving the restaurant, Bob's Off the Square. An officer spotted the car and pulled Hulett over a few blocks away.

Hulett posted $1,000 bond and was released later that morning.

The misdemeanor charge was increased to a felony Friday, April 30th, and another arrest warrant was issued. Police had learned this was Hulett's third arrest for drunk driving: the first was in Missouri in 1999 and the second was in Fort Worth in 2007.

His lawyer says Hulett turned himself in the following Monday morning and was released on $5,000 bond.

Hulett, 68, is serving his second term as mayor of Granbury. He was first elected in 2016, and his current term was meant to run through November of 2022.

Per NBCDFW, the City Council will meet on Monday to accept his resignation, as well as to discuss ordering a special election to replace Hulett on June 29th.
