A grand jury has cleared the police officer who shot and killed the Allen Outlet Mall shooter.
The Collin County grand jury has found the police officer was justified when he shot and killed 33-year-old Mauricio Garcia on May 6th at the Premium Outlet mall in Allen. Garcia murdered 8 people and wounded another 7 people when he went on his deadly rampage.
Allen police chief Brian Barvy said at the time that he officer saved untold lives when the officer fired, neutralizing the threat.
It was not the only officer that was cleared today. The grand jury cleared another officer of shooting a man involved in an incident who was armed with a machete last month in McKinney.
Reports show police were sent to the American Inn motel on University on May 5th and found the man in the parking lot. He was waiving the three-foot-long machete when police got there. At the time, McKinney Police spokeswoman Carla Marion Reeves said officers ordered the man to drop the weapon and only fired once he advanced toward them.
The man was shot by police and later died.
Another case the grand jury reviewed happened during the arrest of a murder suspect in Allen. A Kennedale man wanted for an October murder was spotted and shot on December 30th. He survived and is awaiting trial. The officer involved in that shooting was also ruled to be justified.
