The Mayor of Grand Prairie is urging his colleagues on the City Council to lower the city's property tax rate this fall.

Mayor Ron Jensen sent a letter outlining his concerns to the Council and the City Manager. He also posted a copy of the letter on his Facebook page.

"Let us make this the year that for the first time in nearly 20 years we drop our tax rate," Jensen wrote. "Even if it is only a small amount, it will show we are listening, and we truly do care."

He's also calling on the City Council to raise the homestead exemption "when we can".

The Grand Prairie City Manager will present his proposed budget to the City Council this summer. They'll vote on the city budget and the tax rate this fall.
