GRAND PRAIRIE — Police arrested 20-year-old Susaneth Pazarez-Nunez and 23-year-old Fernando Vega Diaz this week in connection with the death of Pazarez-Nunez’s 1-year-old son - a case investigators say involved repeated abuse, including biting, beating and smothering.
The child was found unresponsive early Friday and later died at a Dallas hospital.
According to the arrest warrant affidavits, Vega Diaz admitted he inflicted the injuries when the child “would not stop crying or yelling.”
Police say Pazarez-Nunez acknowledged she knew about the abuse but did nothing to stop it.
Investigators discovered bruising on the child’s face and other parts of his body — injuries neither suspect claimed to have noticed when first questioned.
Both have been charged with injury to a child causing death, a first-degree felony.
Authorities say no other children at the home were found to be in immediate danger.
