Grapevine-Colleyville ISD trustees vote 5-2 to close Bransford and Dove elementary schools following a contentious special meeting Wednesday night in Grapevine.

The decision affects two of the district’s oldest campuses and comes as GCISD faces declining student enrollment and increasing budget pressure.

District officials say the closures will take effect ahead of the 2026-27 school year and are part of a broader effort to consolidate resources as student numbers continue to fall. Enrollment declines have been a growing issue not only in GCISD but in districts across North Texas, where shifting demographics and tighter school finance conditions are forcing difficult decisions about staffing and campus operations.

The meeting drew a large crowd of parents and community members, many of whom voiced concerns about the impact on students and neighborhoods. Trustees who supported the closures cited long-term financial sustainability and the need to better align the district’s facilities with current enrollment trends.

GCISD says it will begin the process of reassigning students and staff in the coming months and plans to release additional details on transition plans as the consolidation moves forward.
