New requirements for obtaining hunting and fishing licenses in Texas will take effect later this year after approval from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission.
The updated rules add proof-of-residency requirements aimed at preventing people from falsely claiming Texas residency to obtain lower-priced licenses, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
The changes go into effect Aug. 1, about two weeks before annual hunting and fishing licenses go on sale Aug. 15.
Officials say the goal is to reduce fraud and ensure only eligible buyers receive resident discounts and benefits.
For Texas residents and most applicants from other states, the process will remain largely unchanged. Buyers will still need to present a valid, unexpired driver license or personal identification card when purchasing a license.
