A Grapevine man is being charged with a felony after being arrested for animal cruelty following the gruesome death of a dog.
In late January, Grapevine Animal Services were called to a dumpster at the Super 8 motel off Highway 114. There, they found a dog, unresponsive and in very bad shape.
Amanda McNew with Grapevine Police says they rushed the dog to an emergency veterinary hospital, but the dog didn't make it. Officials say the dog was severely emaciated with an open wound on its head and multiple rashes or abrasions on its body.
The following investigation determined the dog died of starvation. The animal’s bone marrow indicated a fat percentage of 9%. The normal range for a dog is 65-98% body fat in the bone marrow.
Police arrested 36-year-old Vanadus Green and have charged him with cruelty to a non-livestock animal. Investigators identified Green through surveillance video at the motel, where the dog was last seen alive.
