Grapevine will hold its 44th Parade of Lights Thursday evening. The city calls itself the "Christmas Capital of Texas" and says 1,400 events are taking place over 40 days around Christmas.
"It's beginning to look and feel a lot like Christmas here in Grapevine," Mayor William D. Tate said at the launch of the city's North Pole Express.
The North Pole Express lets families sing Christmas carols and meet Santa Claus as they ride decorated trains leaving from Grapevine Vintage Railroad.
Grapevine's Parade of Lights starts Thursday at 7 pm. The city says the parade includes more than 100 floats and marching bands.
People riding the North Pole Express say they are glad Grapevine has embraced the feeling of a small town in the middle of a region of almost eight million people.
"That little, magical Hallmark experience, it's a very fun experience," one woman with her kids said. "We're just getting away from the hustle and bustle and enjoying the season."
"The town goes way out of the way to do this," a man with his grandkids said. "You just walk up and down the streets to see what they have. It's a wonderful time."
The parade route and places to park can be found online.
