Hamas has agreed to portions of the U. S.-backed peace plan that Israel agreed to earlier this week.

This comes after President Donald Trump gave Hamas a Sunday deadline to accept the plan.

American Jewish Committee Regional Director Joel Schwitzer says he believes it's possible to get back to a level of optimism prior to the October 7th terror attack that broad peace is possible in the area.

"I don't think it will be easy. I think we need people of good faith, not just in Israel and the Palestinian territories, but also in the surrounding countries and in countries across the world," Schwitzer said.

Hamas said they immediately negotiate to release the remaining hostages, including the bodies of those who have died.
