We knew problems would arise when electric scooters came back, and only a fool would think those problems wouldn’t happen IMMEDIATELY.
In fact, crashes and accidents involving electric scooters have spiked so much in the town of Highland Village, mayor Dan Jaworski says his police force is “cracking down.”
Jaworski said that the rise in scooter incidents has only been matched by the rise in complaints from residents as well.
He told NBC DFW, “They see kids all over the city, that they're not observing just the basic traffic laws there. They're passing through stop signs. They're not crossing streets at crosswalks. They're just going right across the middle of a street.”
Jaworski also cited several crashes across the city, where e-scooters collided with cars traveling down the road, and reiterated that e-scooters do not have the right of way.
"It would be just like any other kind of vehicle, whether it was a golf cart or motorcycle, or moped. You have to observe right of way just like a car does," he said.
