While soccer fans gathered across North Texas for World Cup festivities, local and federal law enforcement agencies conducted a series of targeted operations that resulted in hundreds of arrests and the rescue of several human trafficking victims.
Between June 1 and July 15, the Dallas Police Department and federal partners executed coordinated operations aimed at curbing violent crime, apprehending fugitives, and dismantling human trafficking networks in high-density entertainment and business districts.
One key initiative, dubbed "Operation Uptown Downtown," focused specifically on locating fugitives in Deep Ellum, Uptown, and the Central Business District.
According to Dallas Police Sgt. Sheldon Smith, the operation led to a total of 725 arrests over the six-week period.
Simultaneously, law enforcement carried out "Operation Safe Streets," a regional initiative targeting individuals involved in sex and human trafficking. The multi-agency effort resulted in numerous arrests, including a single-day operation that took 50 suspects into custody.
Officials confirmed that eight human trafficking victims were rescued during the crackdowns and have since been connected with regional outreach and support services.
