Several new laws took effect Monday in Texas.
Among the new laws include the Ten Commandments in Schools where donated copies of the Ten Commandments will be displayed in classrooms.
That is going through several legal challenges.
One of the bigger ones affecting Texas classrooms is school choice which is something Governor Greg Abbott demanded to the surprise and even opposition of some in the republican party.
Another law expanded vaccine exemptions in schools, and another bans the use of cell phones on school property during school hours.
There are several laws involving crime that strengthens penalties for road-rage shootings and child grooming. There’s even a new law banning sex dolls that look like children.
On the healthcare front, an expansion of medical cannabis and funding for the state’s 988 suicide prevention hotline.
In total, there are 835 new state laws that are now on the books and enforceable in Texas as of September 1st.
