Interstate 30 is open again in both directions through the “Canyon” stretch south of downtown Dallas after a planned weekend closure to support major reconstruction work on the corridor, the Texas Department of Transportation confirmed.
The shutdown began Friday night and was lifted early Monday morning, part of an ongoing $888 million I-30 Canyon improvement project aimed at modernizing the downtown freeway between Interstate 35E and I-45/US 75.
TxDOT crews used the closure to advance demolition, bridge work and other construction tasks that can’t be done safely with active lanes open, and signed detours routed traffic to alternate routes including Spur 366/Woodall Rodgers Freeway.
The I-30 Canyon project includes multiple long-term closures of nearby streets and bridges, is expected to reshape the corridor’s traffic patterns and connections, and remains on track for completion by late 2030 after years of planning and phased work.
