Questions, disbelief, and heartache as more is learned about the deadly collision between an American Airlines passenger jet and the army helicopter that collided at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
None survived, and several of the victims were members of the U.S. Figure Skating family. The Ice Skating Community is reeling after the discovery several members were killed in yesterday's collision
"When you find out [who] some of the people on the plane is, [it's] even a bigger blow," former Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan said.
Several members of the Skating Club of Boston were returning from the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita. They included two teenage figure skaters, their mothers, and two highly regarded Russian-born figure skating coaches.
"I feel for the athletes, the skaters, their families, but anyone that was on that plane, not just the skaters, because it's just such a tragic event," Kerrigan said.
More than a dozen figure skaters were killed.
The deadly plane tragedy has created a shockwave for members of ice skating clubs across the world, including in North Texas.
The Dallas Figure Skating Club put out a statement saying in part " Our love, prayers, and hope go out to everyone onboard these flights and to the families and loved ones of those involved. "
In the post, one mom wrote her daughter knew two of the victims and today left the rink in tears.
