Getting him hoisted into position, adorned with his new boots and sound system is no small task, said Senior Vice President of Operations Rusty Fitzgerald.

"He had a bath, we had somebody come in and touch up his face, get the dirt off it. We cover it in the off-season but still, it gets a little dust," said Fitzgerald. "So we got him all cleaned up."

Fitzgerald said this signifies the start of the fair is near.

"This is the big event right here," said Fitzgerald. "Big Tex goes up, we're one week away from the fair and I just can't wait for opening day."

He wasn't kidding, the event is a huge hit with fans of all ages including one family from Rutherford that has been bringing their son Zach since he was born.

"I'm really good fan of Big Tex, I like him and I'm just really excited until it opens because I'm excited to hear him talk and see him again," said the little boy holding his own Big Tex doll. "That's really fun."

Zach and other kids from two local schools as well as some Dallas Cowboy cheerleader alum and other bystanders cheered and yelled as Big Tex took his place in fair park signifying the week long countdown to the start of the fair.
