As the police like to say, you can run but you can't hide. And a goat learned just that in Irving this week.

Monday, on April Fool's Day, reports say a goat fell off a trailer on Highway 183 and made a break for it, dodging through traffic and into a shopping center. Police were there quickly and the foot-hoof chase was on.

One officer tried to tempt the critter with french fries but the goat took off and drivers in the parking lot were treated to a scene most of us have never seen. Officers, one of them with a rope, sprinted after the goat who gave them a run for their money.

Ultimately one officer tackled the animal while another put the rope around its neck, holding it until animal welfare officers arrived. The goat was turned over to Dallas County Animal Services which has facilities to care for livestock.

In a separate incident, also on April Fools Day, Irving police also ran down an injured peacock running loose in a residential neighborhood. The bird is receiving medical treatment for its broken leg.
