Johnson County is opening a free, drive-through COVID-19 testing site in Cleburne. Officials say it's a response to an increasing number of COVID-19 cases.
"Throughout the last month across Johnson County we have experienced an increase in COVID-positive individuals," said Johnson County Emergency Management Director Jamie Moore. "With that increase has come a demand in testing."
The testing site will be outside the Cleburne Senior Center at 1212 Glenwood Drive. It will be open from 9:00am to 4:00pm four days a week - Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday. Those hours will be in effect for the rest of December.
"There's no appointment required, it's going to be drive-through testing - stay in your vehicle," said Cleburne Fire-EMS Chief Cory White. "You don't need any signs or symptoms. If you want to get a test, you can come in and get a test. They have a pretty good capacity."
Officials hope residents will take other steps to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
"This is part of a comprehensive program to try to mitigate COVID across Johnson County. Testing is just a piece...remembering if you're in enclosed areas a mask is helpful, remembering to wash your hands," said Emergency Management Director Jamie Moore. "If you're sick or experiencing any sort of COVID symptoms, remember to distance from your family. With the holidays coming and people traveling in and out of Johnson County you want to remember - if you're sick, just stay home."
