A Johnson County woman has been sentenced to 25 years behind bars after pleading guilty Friday to giving her 12-year-old nephew a gun before he shot and killed a Sonic employee in Keene, south of Fort Worth two years ago.

Matthew Davis was killed after he asked the boy's uncle to stop urinating in the parking lot in front of customers.

Davis' mother Leigh Miller told NBC5 they are okay with the sentence for Ashley Gomez even though they wished it was longer.

"This is justice that we've been waiting for," Miller said. "Of course, with a death like this, you want them to be life in prison."

Miller said they plan to fight any attempt for Gomez to get out on parole.

The boy who shot Davis is currently serving a 12-year sentence in the Texas Juvenile Justice Division.
