Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Kelvin Joseph Jr. has been arrested in connection with a deadly motorcycle crash that occurred early Saturday morning in Richardson. The wreck claimed the life of 27-year-old Cody Morris, a mother of two from Plano, and has led to serious criminal charges for the 25-year-old athlete.

The crash happened around 4:50 a.m. on June 7 on the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 75 near Park Boulevard. When Richardson police arrived, they found Morris unresponsive and alone near her motorcycle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to authorities, Joseph did not remain at the crash site. Instead, about an hour later, he called Plano police and admitted he had been involved. Officers said he showed signs of intoxication when they made contact with him and took him into custody.

Joseph is now facing two charges: driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor, and collision involving death, a second-degree felony. He remains in custody at the Richardson jail, with bond not yet announced.

Drafted by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Joseph played two seasons in Dallas before brief stints with the Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts, and most recently the D.C. Defenders of the UFL. This is not his first brush with law enforcement—he was questioned in connection to a 2022 nightclub shooting in Dallas, though he was never charged.

The victim, Cody Morris, was remembered by family and friends as an avid motorcycle enthusiast and loving mother. Her sudden death has left a deep void in her North Texas community.

The Richardson Police Department’s Special Crash Investigation Team is continuing to gather evidence, including surveillance footage and witness statements. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the crash to contact them at 972-744-4944.
