The iconic Weir's Furniture Store in the Knox-Henderson district is holding its grand reopening on Wednesday.
When Weir's opened on Knox Street in 1948 it became the anchor destination for generations of furniture shoppers up and down Knox and Henderson.
For two years, an upscale 12-story, 28,000 square foot office tower has been going up on the footprint of the original Weir's near Knox and Travis. The thoroughly remodeled Weir's will still open onto Travis.
The building preserves the facade of the century-old Highland Park Soda Fountain which closed down four years ago to make way for the new construction.
Early plans called for the new tower to be finished in 2020. But with the advent of the Coronavirus plus supply chain issues plaguing the project, the Grand Reopening is Wednesday.
