The US Department of Labor is suing a Denton company for allegedly firing a whistleblower.

The Labor Department says Peterbilt fired an employee one day after that employee raised concerns about the company's COVID-19 safety procedures via email to the Denton Chamber of Commerce.

Last March, at the outset of the pandemic, the employee expressed his concerns to Peterbilt management, according to reports.

According to the Labor Department's lawsuit the company responded by saying that its plan was to clean workspaces and continue to work, prompting the employee's email to the chamber.

OSHA determined that Peterbilt violated federal whistleblower protections by firing him.

The Labor Department is demanding that Peterbilt reinstate the employee, pay him back wages with interest and expunge his personnel record.
