Members of Congress are defending their position when it comes to the ongoing government shutdown.

Congresswoman Julie Johnson of North Texas is among the many democrats demanding an extension of Obamacare subsidies that once expired will cause premiums to skyrocket across the country.

"Texas has the highest rate of uninsured residents in the country," Congresswoman Johnson said. "When people lose coverage, they don't stop getting sick. They just stop getting care and that cost is passed along to taxpayers and those who do have health insurance."

Democrats are pushing for an extension as part of a resolution to reopen the government.

Republicans meanwhile say while they are open to discussing healthcare, they do not want it to be a part of reopening the government.

Meanwhile, a continuing resolution that passed the House weeks ago continues to fail in the Senate, keeping the government shutdown for now.
