After thieves cleaned out a local Boy Scout council's bike barn, a local bike shop has stepped in to help.
Last month, thieves broke into the Camp Wisdom bike barn belonging to Boy Scouts Circle Ten Council and made off with 23 mountain bikes. That put the council's annual summer mountain bike camp in danger of having to be canceled.
But some local bike shops have since stepped up to the rescue.
Hector Ramirez, the general manager of Richardson Bike Mart's flagship store, says when owner Woody Smith heard about what happened, he had to do something.
Richardson Bike Mart is donating ten mountain bikes to help replenish the council's bike fleet.
Ramirez says they're in all sizes, and most are brand new bikes, with a couple being gently pre-owned. He says getting the bikes was a bit of a challenge, with supplies being short amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The council is expecting to pick up the bikes later this morning.
Dallas Police are still looking for the bike thieves.
