In an age where our children are growing up in a digital world, it's more important than ever to ensure they navigate the web safely.

Thursday night, April 4, Fort Worth's Blue Haze Elementary School (in the White Settlement ISD) is hosting a screen readiness workshop as part of National PTA’s Ready, Tech, Go! program.

Thursday's event is one of 23 happening in the state of Texas, and 200 across the country.

Yvonne Johnson, National PTA President, is in town for the event.

"We're super excited for (Thursday's) event," said Johnson. "The event is a free workshop that will help families become familiar with tools and resources to help determine screen readiness and navigate meaningful conversations with their children so they know what to say and how they develop good digital habits."

The initiative is a national effort supported by AT&T, aiming to reach as many families as possible with workshops across the country.

The conversation around screen readiness and digital safety isn't confined to the home environment; it extends to the educational system as well.

“A lot of (schools) are using these online platforms," Johnson noted. It's imperative for both schools and families to create a healthy digital environment, ensuring children are equipped with the necessary skills to be digitally safe.

Thursday night's event, which will feature Texas PTA President Jennifer Easley, Texas PTA President-Elect Heidi PeCoy, Texas PTA Director at Large Ken Kuhl, and others is now closed to registrants.

But for families seeking guidance, the National PTA offers numerous resources on their website.

"We have a plethora of information and resources to help families navigate," stated Johnson. "And this spring, 200 local PTAs across the country are hosting workshops for their families as part of this effort."
