As North Texas braces for winter weather this weekend, officials at Dallas Love Field say preparations are already in place to keep flights operating safely while advising travelers to plan ahead for potential delays.

Airport crews are monitoring conditions and ready to respond if icing develops.

"We have about five snow sweepers ready to go, along with roughly forty-four thousand gallons of liquid de-icer and additional salt equivalent," said Patrick Clarke, Public Information Coordinator at Love Field. "The goal is to make sure our runways remain free of any ice buildup."

Staffing plans are also in place, with employees prepared to support both airfield operations and passengers as conditions evolve.

"We’re watching the forecast closely," Clarke said. "If inclement weather moves in Friday into the weekend, we have staff at the ready to assist travelers and support runway operations."

Flight operations ultimately depend on federal oversight. Clarke said Love Field coordinates with the National Weather Service, while the Federal Aviation Administration determines whether aircraft can depart or must remain on the ground.

"The FAA makes the call on whether to hold airplanes or press go," Clarke said. "They’re our go-to when it comes to airport conditions."

For travelers, airport officials stress checking flight status before leaving home, allowing extra time at the airport, and preparing for possible delays.
