NBA star Luka Dončić - the Slovenian phenom who spent his first years in the league with the Dallas Mavericks - has publicly confirmed he has ended his engagement and is locked in a custody battle over his two young daughters.

Dončić told ESPN Tuesday that he has separated from his fiancée, Anamaria Goltes. Sources close to the situation said he is now in a custody battle over their two daughters.

In a statement provided to ESPN, Dončić said: "I love my daughters more than anything and I've been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the U.S. during the season, but that hasn't been possible, so I recently made the tough decision to end my engagement. Everything I do is for my daughters' happiness and I will always fight to be with them and give them the best life I can."

Dončić, 27, and Goltes had been together for a decade after meeting as teenagers in Slovenia. They became engaged in July 2023. Their first daughter, Gabriela, was born in November 2023, and their second daughter, Olivia, arrived in December 2025, with Dončić leaving the Los Angeles Lakers to travel to Slovenia for the birth.

During that December visit, Dončić expressed a desire to bring Gabriela back to the United States with him. A disagreement ensued, and Goltes called police to Kranj Maternity Hospital on Dec. 6. Officers responded but, according to a police report reviewed by ESPN, found no evidence of any criminal offense or misdemeanor by Dončić. He flew back to the U.S. later that day and has not seen his daughters or Goltes since.

An interim injunction was filed by Dončić on Feb. 26 with Slovenian courts, seeking immediate contact with Gabriela and Olivia. Since returning to Lakers training camp last September, Dončić has seen his daughters for only two days.

TMZ reported Tuesday that Goltes filed a petition seeking child support and attorney fees from Dončić in California. Dončić told ESPN he had no idea the petition had even been filed. The petition did not include custody orders.

Dončić was traded from Dallas to Los Angeles in February 2025 in a blockbuster deal for Anthony Davis. He signed a three-year, $165 million contract extension with the Lakers last summer and is currently the NBA's leading scorer, averaging 32.5 points per game this season.
