A man accused of shooting an undercover Dallas police officer may have to wait to face charges in that case because officials in the state of Louisanna want him first.
Police reports say 19-year-old Redricous Lewis is one of three teenagers who was arrested for carjacking an undercover cop near Bachman Lake in August.
Officials say the two other suspects, 17-year-old Redtravion Polk, and 18-year-old Xavier Cook were later arrested on charges of aggravated robbery.
But unlike the other two suspects, Lewis is not in Dallas County awaiting trial. He's currently being held in Shreveport, Louisiana on other criminal charges.
The shooting in Dallas happened as three teens tried to steal the unmarked police car that was under surveillance when a gunfight broke out.
A prosecutor in Caddo Parrish says they intend to try Lewis for a gun and drug charge before he faces justice in Dallas County.
And time could be on Dallas County's side. If there is a conviction in Louisiana, Dallas County prosecutors could use it as a sentencing enhancement if a jury rules against Lewis. And that could amount to more prison time for Lewis.
