A man has died while in Fort Worth police custody and the medical examiner will have to determine the cause of death.
On Tuesday, reports say the man was handcuffed at La Gran Plaza, a shopping center near I-35 and Seminary. An off-duty officer came to assist a security guard who was struggling with the man who, according to security, was causing a disturbance.
Fort worth Police say the man assaulted the security guard and that's when the Fort Worth officer came over to help and to summon on-duty officers to help detain the man.
After he was in handcuffs, he began having a medical emergency so they took the cuffs off and gave first aid until paramedics arrived to take him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A police investigation is ongoing. The name of the deceased man has not yet been released.
