Fort Worth Police say a man was shot and injured in a shooting this weekend in the West Seventh Entertainment District. They say the shooting followed an argument along Bledsoe just after midnight Sunday morning.
Police say the victim went to the hospital in critical condition. They have not announced any arrests.
At least two other people have been shot in the development since last fall. In September, a TCU student was shot and killed in a case police say was random. Earlier this month, police say another man was shot and killed after an argument.
Fort Worth Police said then they would increase visibility. The department says it has 25 officers dedicated to the entertainment district.
Monday morning, people who live in the area say they had heard about the shooting, but they are taking action to try to avoid the biggest crowds.
"I feel pretty safe," one woman walking her dog said Monday morning. "I don't go out at night. I've always felt somewhat safe."
"I'm not one of those fearful people," a man getting coffee said. He said he does not go out when bars are closing on weekend nights both because of safety and because of the traffic and crowds filling the area. "It doesn't bug me too much, but it's sort of a concern."
The Fort Worth City Council approved the creation of an ambassador program for West 7th in January. The program would be similar to the program downtown where ambassadors answer visitors' questions and report suspicious behavior to police. The ambassador program in West 7th has not actually launched, though. The city says it cannot start a pilot program until 51% of property owners sign a petition for the creation of a public improvement district, and the petition has not reached that threshold.
