A man is locked up in Dallas a week after a man mowing a lawn was run down and killed.
Last week, a man named Armando Leija Esparza was mowing the grass at a home on West Jefferson in north Oak Cliff. Police say Luis Saulo Ronzon Ramirez was speeding, up to 76 miles an hour, when he ran a red light and slammed into a pick-up, sending Ramirez's car spinning and rolling several times until it slammed into the victim's riding lawn mower.
Leija was taken to a local hospital but they could not save his life.
Ramirez is being held in the Dallas County jail on a manslaughter charge.
Dallas City Councilman Chad West whose district includes the address where the crash happened posted on Facebook that "the Jefferson Boulevard Task Force, led by neighbors in Winnetka Heights, L.O. Daniel, and Sunset Hill, have been meeting for months to discuss statistics and traffic calming options for Jefferson Boulevard." Further, he writes this is a "tragic death that should never have happened."
Friends of the Leija family have created a Go Fund Me page to help raise money for his family.
