A man is recovering in the hospital after being shot in a Fort Worth domestic violence case early Wednesday morning.
Just past 1 a.m. police reports say a woman called 9-1-1 to say a man had kicked in her door because she was ending their relationship. She said he was choking her.
Police were sent to the Paradise Hills Apartments, a complex on Post Oak Boulevard in far northeast Fort Worth. They found a man bleeding from a gunshot wound in the upper body.
He was rushed to Baylor Scott and White in Grapevine where his wound is considered life-threatening. Police say the woman was in fear for her safety when she pulled the trigger.
Police have arrested Tawanda Smothers, 31, and have charged her with assault with a deadly weapon.
Police say there will be an arrest warrant for the man if and when he's released from the hospital.
