The man shot to death Monday in what Arlington police first believed to be a crash has now been identified.
Police were called to what was reported to be a crash scene on Rutherford in southeast Arlington near I-20 and Highway 360. But when officers arrived, they saw a car parked with the engine running and all four doors open. But they saw no sign of a crash.
Slumped over the steering wheel, they found a man now identified as Juan Merino who was dead from a gunshot to the head. Detectives have reason to believe Merino had two passengers when he arrived at the scene on Rutherford. But they ran for it after he was shot and have not been seen since.
Detectives suggest Merino and the killer or killers may have been involved in what they call "high risk activity."
