A loaded gun was brought into a Mansfield ISD high school -- the same school where a shooting took place a year and a half ago.
Timberview High School Principal Derrell Douglas notified parents of the incident in a letter.
"The student is in police custody and our students and staff are safe," Principal Douglas' letter read. "A parent notification led to the search of the student's backpack in our administrative offices where the gun was found."
The unidentified student is expected to face school discipline and criminal charges.
Douglas wrote that he knows that the news is upsetting, especially given what transpired in October of 2021, when student Timothy Simpkins opened fire inside the school, injuring four.
"We want you to know (we) will have increased police presence on campus moving forward, additional random wand searches and counselors will be available for anyone who needs to talk," Douglas' letter continued. No one was killed in the October 2021 shooting, and all victims are doing fine.
