After years of hearings and protests, today a decision will be made on the future of a proposed concrete batch plant just outside Mansfield.
Businessman John Sheffield applied for an air quality permit for the Bosque Solutions concrete batch plant three years ago, a move that got a lot of heat from Mansfield residents and people on the outskirts of town who would have to live nearby the plant.
Sheffield says the project would fully comply with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s health regulations. But neighbors aren't so convinced.
"I have seen many batch plants, I'm a commercial general contractor," said one neighbor at a public forum about 2 years ago. "You can see it in the air, let alone breathe it."
About 400 concerned residents turned out at the same meeting to protest the plant. For years now, they’ve been fighting it-- holding protests, raising concerns about air quality, truck traffic and noise. They even created a GoFundMe page, which has raised more than $130,000 since 2019.
Today’s decision will decide the future of the Bosque Solutions permit, and it could very well influence similar contested case hearings in the future.
