Dallas (1080 KRLD)- The Dallas Mavericks are working with the organization, Project Unity, to reach areas of the city with lower rates of vaccination. Friday, Project Unity set up a vaccination clinic at the YMCA on East Ledbetter in Oak Cliff.
"It's more feeling at home and feeling safe and comfortable with those organizations that serve them in the community," says Project Unity's Charlene Edwards.
Edwards says smaller clinics can reach people who may not have transportation to a larger hub or may not feel comfortable getting the vaccine from someone they do not know.
"We make an event of it so people can get excited, so they can be comfortable, so they can forget about actually getting the shot," she says. "It's more about coming to something that helps lift the load of actually getting the vaccine."
Friday, Mavs ManiAACs greeted people getting vaccinated in Oak Cliff. People could also pick up Dallas Mavericks masks.
"We're just here providing moral support," says Mavs' Take Action's Ivy Awino.
"Some of our brand lends itself very well across the city, so we're just here to put the stamp on it."
Project Unity was giving the first dose of the Moderna vaccine Friday. People can learn more about other clinics here.
